Unlike Pykara, Ooty Needle View Hillpoint is hidden away from public view and not frequented too much by tourists. Located on the Ooty-Mysore route in a place called Gudalur, what awaits the lone trekker is a sight that mesmerizes you beyond imagination.
Needle view hill point or Soochimalai is a place where you can literally "reach for the clouds". The peak and the clouds are at par and during the rare occasion when they separate you can see small villages, dotted among vast stretches of forests, in a distance.

The sight is truly magnificent and worth a stop if you are on the return journey from Ooty to Mysore, even otherwise. The sad fact is that not many tourists are aware of such a place and thus it remains ignored by the majority. It is advisable to make the journey during the day time and not to wait until the sun sets or it is dark to visit the place.
As it is a highly forested area, there is a high probability of wild animals to come out on the prowl after sunset. The peak is characterized by a huge rock in the shape of a cone hence the name Needle View Hill Point.
Be advised to take some warm clothes with you, as the temperatures can drop during the leeward end of the day even during monsoon. The sight forms a wonderful backdrop for a photograph with your special one which can be cherished for the times to come.
